Too Bad - Nickelback

Father's hands are lined with dirt
From long days in the field
And mother's hands are serving meals
In a cafe on Main Street
With mouths to feed
Just trying to keep clothing on our backs
And all I hear about is
How it's so bad, it's so bad

It's too bad, It's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
Let's walk, let's talk
(let's talk)

You left without saying goodbye
Although I'm sure you tried
You call the house from time to time
To make sure we're alive
But you weren't there
Right when I needed you the most
And now I dream about it
How it's so bad, it's so bad

It's too bad, It's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
Let's walk, let's talk

It's so bad, it's too bad, it's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
Let's walk, let's talk
(let's talk)

Father's hands are lined with guilt
From tearing us apart
Guess it turned out in the end
Just look at where we are
Made it out, we still got clothing on our backs
And now I scream about it
And how it's so bad, it's so bad
It's so bad x2

It's too bad, It's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
Let's walk, let's talk

It's so bad, It's too bad, it's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
Let's walk, let's talk
(Long time, let's walk, let's talk)

Okay back for some lyrics analysis. Just one thing before though, this is my interpretation of this song's lyrics. Okay? Yes? Lets start..

Since some days, I started to watch my old CDs that were full of nu-metal and stuff clips. I then stumbled upon (catch the joke) this Nickelback clip. The clip has parts filmed in a kind of countryside grange. Its got straw all over the place and the band is playing there. I loved the setting.

During the first verse, Chad (the singer) tells us about how his father was working in the fields and his mother was working in a cafe. Sounds very cliche as he says how his parents used to say its too bad.

The chorus has very confusing words. The author expresses his dilemma, which is very understandable here.

The second verse tells more about the situation. His father is now gone without a decent farewell and the somehow he knows he tried but its better to go without any word in these cases. He admits that his father called, but he needed him here, physically.

The chorus kicks in here. And goes on for 2 times.

Then the third verse kind of concludes the lyrics. He says how his father feels guilty now. He tells his father that they made it out without him. Something that his father thought was difficult. I really liked the way he says "we still got clothing on our backs". This really expresses how the author and his mother have managed to live without a father.

There goes the chorus again for 2 times. An ending solo concludes the song.

So there goes of this month's Lyrics Analysis...
